This is a large French Enamel Jewelry Box mounted in gilt ormolu. Hand painted and artist signed, "Verjot". The box is 8 sided and measures 7 5/8" wide x 2" in height. It is cobalt with rich gold gilt embellishments and a central design of a courting couple in front of large urn. The box opens to reveal two large floral sprays against a white porcelain interior. The back hinge and front clasp are in very good condition, and the lid snaps shut firmly. There has been some professional restoration to the lid but it is not at all obvious, unless you hold it in direct light, and at certain angles. The lid seems to have cracked across the front, diagonally. It was reglued and repainted, but the work was so well done, it's not at once perceptible to an untrained eye. The artist "Verjot" is well known, and the box is worthy of a fine collection, despite the repair. It is signed FRANCE in blue, and has a red Sevres mark. 19th century.Free Domestic Shipping!
