Vintage Asian Sunflower Lacquer Tazza (Item #MX115) Price: $125.00 A lovely, unusual, red lacquer tazza with a hand carved sunflower motif. This came from a collector of other Asian antiques/collectibles. This is probably a Japanese example, Kamakura-bori style. This type of craft dates back to over 700 years, where designs are carved into hard wood (usually from a Katsura/Judas Tree) and then applied with several layers of lacquer. The lacquer process helps to preserve the carving and enables the wood to last for many many years without damage. Measures 10 1/2" L x 8" W x 2 1/2" H. This tazza is in very nice condition. I did notice a piece of paint brush bristle under the lacquer on an edge. Mentioned for accuracy, does not detract from the overall beauty.Free Domestic Shipping! |
