Large Fedoskino Female Portrait Lacquer Box (Item #MX107) Sold This is an exquisitely hand painted Russian Lacquer Box by Fedoskino artist, Eugenie Soloviev. The box measures 7 1/8" x 5 3/8" x 2 1/8", a size larger than most boxes you see. This box is signed in three places on the front/bottom cover. The artist's work shows amazing detail and clarity. This painting is a Portrait of M. I. Lopukhina, a beautiful Russian princess, after the original by Vladimir Lukich Borovikovskii, which hangs in the Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, Russia. The original portrait was done in 1797 and has inspired many artists since. She is wearing a white dress with a purple robe, and a blue belt. Her dress is accented with mother of pearl paint tones which enhances her radiance and adds depth and glimmer to the portrait. The box is black with fine gold details on all of the edges and is footed. It is hinged and opens to reveal a painted red interior. Fedoskino is the birthplace of Russian Lacquer Miniatures. Here, a more realistic style of painting is used, as compared to the other major villages. Fedoskino artists use oil paint unlike the artists of the other three major schools who use egg tempera. Several coats of lacquer are applied to each box which gives it durability to last for generations. This box is in super fine condition, no wear. The subject is striking and the painting exquisite.Free Domestic Shipping! |
