Signed Turquoise & Coral Chip Necklace

This double stranded Southwestern turquoise and coral chip necklace features beautiful strands of alternating chips that measure approximately 13mm x 4mm -6mm x 2mm. The piece is well balanced with classic construction. This necklace has been appraised and is thought to be from the Stormy Mountain Mine in Elko County Nevada. The matrix in Stormy Mountain appear as little dark storm clouds, and the turquoise is vibrant with deep color. Often in order to enhance the contrast between the coral and the turquoise and to prevent fading, both stones are treated with stabilizing agents, and in the case of coral, pigments to embolden the tones. The turquoise is blue with black inclusions, and the coral is a nice deep red color with very few inclusions. The necklace is signed AT and MT, however, we have not identified the artist. It measures approximately 31" in length (by 7/8" in width) and has a hand wrapped silver hook and eye closure. The necklace was strung with string, not wire. The ends of the necklace are finished with hollow 8mm sterling round beads and hand stamped cone beads. It weighs approximately 6 ounces. We acquired this piece at auction from the estate of a couple who collected Native Americana and fine Southwestern jewelry. (N118)
