A nice pair of early 19th century framed Paxton Botanical Orchid Prints. The prints are titled "Mr. Mackay's Zygopetalon or Zygopetalon Mackaii and "Cattleya Harrisoniae". Both are original prints from the hand colored lithograph by Joseph Paxton, (1803-1865), listed in Paxton's Magazine of Botany and Register of Flowering Plants (Vols. I - V). Mr. Mackay's Zygopetalon print is dated June 1836 and printed by Holden del. Smith. The Cattleya Harrisoniae print is dated 1837. The visible portion of the prints measure 6 1/4" x 9". Framed, they measure 12 1/2" x 15 3/4". The matting is black with gold hand drawn accent lines. The frames are gold gilt gesso and show some normal wear, and bits of loss in a couple of corners. One is paper backed, both are ready to hang. A lovely old pair!
