Mene Bronze Whippets Sculpture (Item #M221) Price: $585.00 This is a magnificent late casting antique bronze whippet sculpture, by Mene, (Mene, Pierre Jules, (French, 1810-1879): Mene exhibited a model of this sculpture in the Paris Salon of 1848 and it appears in his catalogue of that same year as sculpture number 93. The original work of art was referred to as "Jiji et Gisella". This model was a very popular bronze after its successful exhibit at the salon and is exhibited in the following books: Art Bronzes by Michael Forrest, pg. 185 Les Animaliers by Jane Horswell, pg. 123 and 125. The Animaliers by James MacKay, pg. 112 (Color plate). Bronzes of the 19th Century by Pierre Kjellberg, pg. 482. It is impressed P.J. Mene on the base. It measures 6 5/8" in height and 7 3/8" in length. It weighs over 3 pounds. The dogs are screwed into the base. All original. Very fine condition.Free Domestic Shipping! |
